Issue 15 Income Tax Renewal--Public Discussion Meeting

CORRECTION: This meeting will be conducted October 23 at City Hall in Council Chambers, commencing at 7:00 p.m., to help answer questions about the 5-year income tax renewal, which constitutes .5% going into the General Fund. This income tax is scheduled to expire June 30, 2009 unless voter approval is received to extend it for another five years. This is the same income tax renewal that failed in May's election.

As for the letter to the editor that was not signed by me (Council letter pushes for tax passage), it is not due to a position I have taken with regard to Issue 15. Understand that the letter was submitted to the Chronicle Telegram without providing me a chance to review or revise it. Only after it was submitted was I asked to give my approval. I was not willing to do so because I do not agree that Council has done a good enough job of managing the City's money. There are changes that need to be made and shifting of priorities so that we are responsible to our residents. Had there been a commitment by Council to listen more to the residents and try harder to respond to their needs, I would have gladly signed the letter.
