Public Budget Hearings

Monday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m. is a public hearing on the city's budget. You do not need to sign up ahead of time to speak.

Come tell the city what you believe should be the emphasis for this year's budget!

Will us speaking out actually change the purposed budget?

It may not change the budget but it will certainly let the administration and council know that the people are paying attention and could help direct spending over the year.

Sir, why are you holding up the budget. They are not going to change anything. Let it pass.

I am not holding up the budget. The President of Council scheduled it for three readings, rather than asking for a suspension of the rules and passage at the last meeting. So long as eight council members agree, the rules may be suspended and the budget adopted by council.

anonymous, I guess if you don't automatically rubber stamp everything you're holding things up.

Well as a homeowner in your ward, I'm glad that you and the other council members didn't give the dummy rubber stamp to something as important as the budget. Keep up the great work!

Hopefully we can use this year's process as a learning experience and improve the process for next year to make the budget even better.

As a long-time voting resident of Ward Four, I want to commend you on your dedication to the public trust. In all my years, I cannot recall a Councilman who has gone to such lengths to ascertain the opinions of his constituents and to represent their interests.

This is the way local government should be run.

It sounds as if Ward 4 is the place for forward thinking folks in Elyria. Where is a good place for like minded folks to gather, exchange ideas, and infuse a little cash into a local business owners bottom line? Thanks for the site Mark. Finally, government by choice not rhetoric.

I try to get to Jim's Coffeehouse on Saturday mornings and usually find a good group of individuals with whom to discuss local issues.

Tailgunner said "Councilman who has gone to such lengths to ascertain the opinions of his constituents and to represent their interests." Where have you represented anyone's interest? In three meetings including the Finance Committee meeting you have suggested nothing!!! What is the difference between someone in the administration hearing complaints and doing nothing and you hearing complaints and doing nothing? You really have your followers duped!!! Maybe you can get them to fail the levy or recall the mayor - that will surely make their lives better! And all this with you suggesting nothing and getting credit for something. Man, you were made to be a politician!

If you were paying attention, you would hear the suggestions that I've made, you would hear the people who came to the public hearing speak and you would see the recommendations I have already made. You've even mentioned them in a post on another thread. The people who elected me support the way I am doing my job. You are entitled to your opinion but I must disagree. It is evident that we see the role of a councilman much differently.

john q that's a brilliant idea , recall the mayor, only we already came up with it ourselves. I think the mayor has you duped. We all see clearly what is going on. Go harass somebody else.

john q citizen = chris sito, I see you have found a new forum to poison.

Yes the ones who spoke appeared to be the majority of 4th ward residents. So are we to assume that they speak for the other 55k residents? So the administration should listen to those people, who clearly did not have an idea of what they were asking. ie JS asking about 25k spending by Mayor.

What ideas did you submit to the mayor regarding the budget?

Jim Slone is not a 4th Ward resident. Many of the speakers were not from my ward. I suggested we place more emphasis on Streets, Police and Fire. You can download a copy of my letter to council and the administration below the Documents section on this page.
